Subject: spread too thin?
I know all of you understand the term, "spread too thin." We apply it to: the condiments (butter, jelly, mayonnaise, etc.) we put on our sandwiches, if there's not enough of them on the bread; to our paychecks if we don't believe there's enough to cover the bills; to our selves when we don't think we have the time or resources to do all we feel we need to do; well, you get my drift.
I believe we also make the mistake of believing this term might apply to our God. We know that millions of prayers are hitting Him at any given time, so we tend to think HE's spread too thin to focus on us as individuals. We realize there's sickness and sorrow all over the world, so we tend to think HE's spread too thin to reach His healing hand out to us. We get caught up in the frenzy of a rushing world, so we tend to think He's spread too thin to spend intimate time with us. Have I got good news for you!
Our God is never, never, never spread too thin!!! HE says, "Lo, I am with you (intimately) always," and, "I have all power in heaven and in earth." The picture the Bible gives us of God is of Him bending down and cupping His ears to hear every nuance of our conversations with Him (not that HE needs to, it's just to give us the picture of our loving God's devotion to us.) We read that HE knows (and cares) when one little bird falls to the ground. David said, "if I ascend to the highest heavens or descend to the deepest part of the earth, go to the farthest shores of the ocean, or even enter into the grave, Lord, you are there." God's Word says our Father's "arm is not shortened, that He cannot save, nor His ear heavy, that He cannot hear." We know that "the cattle on a thousand hills" is just "pocket change" to Him, for HE owns everything.
Rejoice, my brothers and sisters, for our God, Savior, Friend, Defender, Strength, Shelter, Supplier, Healer, etc., etc., is never, never, never spread too thin. HE has all of eternity, all the power there is, all you and any and all of the rest of us could ever need of anything, and He's waiting on you to come to Him to let Him spend it on you.
In Christ's love,
Ben
