Subject: I AM, The Boss
When I was a very young child, I had it locked in my mind that
"the boss" was the top banana, nothing was higher. If a group of us
started a "club, group, or gang", I always wanted to be "the boss." It was
okay if you were the president, leader, chief, or whatever, if I was "the boss,"
my position trumped yours. I think I picked up this idea by hearing such
things as, "I have to go in to work, the boss said so," or, "the boss won't let
me take off early today." Whatever the source of my idea, it was firmly
implanted. I, of course, learned later that bosses have bosses, presidents
are accountable, chiefs can be removed and replaced; but the fundamental
assumption I had as a child was and is true. The one qualifying factor is,
what is the person boss of?
No matter what, who, or how much a person is boss over on this
earth, someone, or group of someones, is over
him. He is accountable to someone; He answers to somebody,
somewhere. There is one boss though, that is accountable to no one, nor
does he have to answer to anyone; of course we know the one who holds that
position is God. People may question, disagree, gripe, whatever they
want to do, His way is the way. Some folks "get their
britches all in a wad" when looking at this truth, but that doesn't change a
thing, it is still the truth. You see, we may offer all
the opinions and arguments we can muster about the "rightness" or "wrongness"
(please forgive the grammatical twist) of God being God and Sovereign over all,
and how HE works things in His creation, it is still HIS
creation. My childhood idea is true concerning Him, HE IS THE
BOSS!
I had these thoughts when I read the following
passage:
who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: 'Why did
the nations rage, And the people plot vain things? The kings of the earth
took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together Against the Lord and
against His Christ.'" For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You
anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of
Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose
determined before to be done. (Acts
4:25-28)
That says those big wigs, Herod and Pontius Pilate, plus the
unbelieving Gentiles and Jews, had their own plans and plots. They
thought things were going their way, but, in
truth all their schemes merely carried out God's purpose and
predetermined plan. Paul says in 1st Corinthians 2:8, "if they (the
rulers) had know God's plan, they would not have crucified the King of
Glory. Hah! The same holds true with us, I believe; all the things
the world and Satan think they are getting over on us and God are being worked
together and will result in our good and His glory.
Hallelujah!
People take this (Acts 4:25-28) and similar passages,
such as the ones describing how God hardened Pharaoh's heart against the things
God asked through Moses, and argue back and forth endlessly over whether man
truly has choice, or, if God's Sovereignty rules. Well, the answer to both
is, yes! How impudent of man to think God has to answer to him and fit
into his little set of made up rules. Just who do we think we are?
God is THE BOSS. How unsearchable are his judgments and His ways past
finding out. (Romans 11:33) With all our discoveries and
so called knowledge, we are about as dumb as a rock compared to
God's "all-knowingness" (please forgive the grammar again). God is the
great I AM, nothing and nobody is above or equal to Him. I find great
comfort, peace, and strength in knowing that, no matter what people, or
demon, or whatever may plot, attempt, say, or do against me, my Father is
"I AM, The Boss. I'm with Him, and so
are you.
